ATLANTA – Army Lt. Patrick Evans, a native of Blue Ridge, and a graduate of
NorthGeorgiaCollege and StateUniversity, was honored for his service and
received a standing ovation at the State Capitol on Monday, January 24.
Evans visited the Capitol after his return from Iraq, where he served and
was wounded in the mess hall bombing at a base outside of Mosul, Iraq in
December.
Accompanied by Col. James T. Palmer, also from NorthGeorgiaCollege, Evans
was recognized on the floor of the Senate. Sen. Chip Pearson
(R-Dawsonville) introduced a resolution honoring Evans’ service to his state
and country, which caused the chamber to erupt in cheers and applause.
Following the event, Sen. Pearson stated, “I am very proud of this young man.
His courage and bravery in the face of danger should be an inspiration
to us all. It was indeed an honor to recognize him today. We are
grateful for all of those who are willing to offer their service and
sacrifice for this great nation.”
